In advertisement there are many different categories and these are:

  • Realists advert
  • Anti realist narrative
  • Animation advert
  • Documentary advert
  • Talking heads
  • Stand alone
  • Series
REALIST ADVERT
A realist advert is a real life advert that is purely done by acting and a scene. An example of a realist advert would be the fairy liquid advert.
This advert is unique because it shows the basic of a real life advert where the scene takes place in a kitchen, the mum is washing up and the child wants to play games. Then the product is instantly shown to the audience so that they know what the ad is about. The advert also says that is keeps the mum's hand soft, this will then get more females o buy the product so that they can have soft hands whilst washing up.

ANTI-REALIST ADVERT

An anti realist advert is a advert that can include things that are not real in them, for example the Mr. Muscle advert. This advert is good because it uses modern day technology of computer animation. It also shows an example of how the product actually work.
it makes this an anti realist advert because a man who can fly will definitely not coming flying into the window and save your day because you have a blocked up sink.

 ANIMATION ADVERT

An animation advert is where lots of computer    work and editing has been done to the ad, for example in the butlins advert. This makes it a good advert because it has lots of editing in it which will grab the viewers attention and think, "i would love to go there!" This advert was mainly focused on the kids. It also shows how much fun you would have at butlins with all the rides there and all of the entertainment there too.

DOCUMENTARY
A documentary advert is when you are advertising a real life thing. These adverts are really effective because they tend to be more serious and make the viewers think that it is reliable. An example of this would be the fairy liquid advert when it is in the lab, this mens that the viewers will think it is scientifically proven that it will work.

TALKING HEADS

A talking heads advert is when a person is talking about an advert by the are talking directly to the camera to make it look like they are speaking to you. This is effective because it grabs your attention when they are speaking about the advert and makes you want to watch until the end. This type of advert is normally done by famous people. An example of this would be the California Tourism Video in 2009.

STAND ALONE

A standard alone advert is normally a one off advert that you may not see on the TV again. An example of this advert would be the drumming gorilla advert by Cadburys. This advert was effective becuase it used humor of a gorilla playing the drums, also the camera focused on one point all the time and managed to get a growing audience going.

SERIES ADVERT
A series advert is the same advert over and over again but with a different story line, yet they still produce the same product and have the same actors in it. An example of this would be the Nescafe Gold Blend advert. This advert was successful because it was building up to two people meeting one anther and then finally getting into a relationship. This was also successful because the audience would think if I get this coffee I would be able to get a girlfriend.

  1. You've analysed how each particular advert works but what you are not doing is always actually explaining the functions of the particular form. For example, animation is a great form to use as it provides a freedom to create interesting and exciting scenarios that real life can not. These in turn are far more memorable/appealing to audience as they provide a sense of a escapism - something we all long for. With series, we enjoy it because it has the time to develop a story line - like a mini soap opera - we want to find out "what happens next". Please re-visit this post to achieve the Distinction.
